How can someone own a universe?

What gives anyone the right to own any property they haven’t personally created? Our current laws regarding land ownership derive largely from theories put forward by John Locke, who asserted that people have the right to own land and other resources so long as they leave enough for others. In our world where almost all land is owned it has become almost impossible to leave any for others. However, in an infinitely large multiverse there is always enough for others so owners of parallel universes have a greater entitlement to their universe than owners of land on earth.

How many universes are there?

It’s possible that there are an infinite number. But even if the number isn’t infinite it must be unimaginably huge. For every quantum event a vast number of parallel universes break off from our universe and from each quantum event in each of those universes a vast number of further parallel universes break off. Even if not infinite the number of universes must be so huge as to be virtually incomprehensible. Imagine the wall of a thousand foot skyscraper with a number one at the top left corner and zeros after it covering the wall all the way to the ground. Imagine multiplying this number by itself then multiplying that number by itself and so on, every second until the sun burns out five billion years in the future. The number you would have would still be a tiny fraction of the number of parallel universes that exist.

What if someone living in the universe I’ve bought objects?

In an infinite number of universes everything is possible so the universe you purchase is by default a universe where the inhabitants won't mind your ownership. If they do you're obviously dealing with a different universe to the one you purchased.

What if I get to my universe and they don’t recognise the deed?

The universe you purchase is by definition one in which the universe deed is recognised. So any universe that doesn’t recognise your deed can’t be the one you purchased.

What if someone in another universe claims to have bought deeds to this universe?

Good luck to them.

Is it possible that I’ll ever travel to my universe?

This is a difficult question to answer at present. Even if inter-universe travel becomes possible finding your universe could take a long time. But with our present level of understanding it certainly can’t be ruled out.

Does the universe I’m buying really exist?

The implications of quantum physics give two options. One is that there are an infinite, or at least unimaginably large, number of parallel universes. The other is that there is no objective reality at all, and that humans only make reality by observing it. If the first is true then your universe exists. If the second is true then nothing really exists so your universe is just as real as anything else.

What if there is a dispute between yourself and another you in a parallel universe?

Authority for Universe Ownership has signed an inter-universal agreement to keep out of other Authority for Universe Ownership affairs in other universes. It’s hoped that all derivate inter-universe Authority for Universe Ownerships will stick to this agreement.

What if it turns out there aren’t any parallel universes at all? Do I get my money back?

The Authority for Universe Ownership gives no guarantee that parallel universes exists and unfortunately cannot refund deed payments.

How many universes have you sold?
